GLP-1 & Telehealth Lifecycle Marketing

Email and SMS programs that help patients finish intake, start well and stay in the program. They're built so marketing never carries health data, and the copy is written to FDA and FTC guidance and reviewed by your counsel.

The short answer

How should a GLP-1 telehealth brand do email and SMS?

Split the work into two lanes. Lifecycle marketing promotes the program and membership from a marketing platform that never holds health data. Clinical messages like dosing, side effects, labs and prescription status come from your HIPAA-covered system. Then choose a platform whose policy allows your category. Klaviyo's does not.

What the rules say now

Klaviyo policy (updated Apr 9, 2026)Prohibited
Klaviyo's acceptable use policy bars offering prescription medications, medical therapies and telehealth.
FDA, March 3, 202630 letters
FDA sent warning letters to 30 telehealth companies over how they marketed compounded GLP-1s.
Customer.io policyNo Rx offers
Customer.io prohibits U.S. offers for prescription medication and prohibits PHI in messages.

The two-lane patient journey

Every stage of the journey has a marketing job and a clinical job. Keeping them in separate systems protects patients and protects your accounts. It also makes it obvious which message belongs where.

What we build for telehealth programs

Telehealth retention isn’t cart abandonment with a medical logo. The revenue sits in intake completion, a strong first month and continuation, and all three depend on trust.

How we keep it by the book

On March 3, 2026, FDA announced 30 warning letters to telehealth companies. The letters objected to marketing that implied compounded GLP-1s were equivalent to, or approved like, FDA-approved drugs, including ‘generic’ and brand-name comparisons. They also objected to branding that obscured who actually compounded the product. That’s the line our copy is written to.

Why most telehealth brands can't stay on Klaviyo

We’re a Klaviyo Master Platinum agency, so we say this with some authority. Klaviyo’s current acceptable use policy (updated April 9, 2026) prohibits using the platform to offer products or services related to prescription medications, medical therapies or telehealth. If your program runs on Klaviyo today, plan the move before your account is reviewed, not after.

Customer.io’s policy doesn’t list telehealth as a prohibited category. It does prohibit U.S. offers for prescription medication and PHI in messages, so we build programs that stay inside those limits. Confirm your specific use case with Customer.io before you migrate. Read the full comparison in our platform guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can GLP-1 telehealth brands use Klaviyo?
Not under Klaviyo's current acceptable use policy. The version updated April 9, 2026 prohibits using Klaviyo to offer products or services related to prescription medications, medical therapies or telehealth. Brands in this category need a platform whose policy doesn't exclude them, such as Customer.io, and must design within its limits.
Can we promote compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide by email?
Promote the care program, not the drug. FDA's March 2026 warning letters targeted marketing that implied compounded GLP-1s were equivalent to approved drugs, and Customer.io prohibits U.S. offers for prescription medication. We write to the service: access to clinicians, membership and support. This isn't legal advice; your counsel should approve the final approach.
Can we send refill reminders by SMS?
We treat reminders that reference a medication, dose or prescription status as clinical, and route them through your HIPAA-covered system. SMS about membership renewal is typically treated as marketing, so it needs documented TCPA consent, opt-out handling and quiet hours. Confirm the classification with your counsel.
Does WIN handle protected health information?
No, by design. We build programs so protected health information never enters marketing tools. Clinical messages run through your HIPAA-covered system, and we can work alongside the team that runs it.
What results should a telehealth lifecycle program drive?
Track intake completion, first renewal, continuation at 3 and 6 months, and patient LTV. We measure journeys against holdout groups so the gains we report are incremental.
Do you run paid media for telehealth too?
Yes. WIN runs paid media alongside lifecycle, which keeps the ad, the landing page and the follow-up messages making the same compliant promise.
